I found when i searched applehistory that the chip used on the new imac G5 is the original 970 not the FX. Doesn't the FX run cooler or am i mistaken? Possibly it was cheaper. What are your thoughts on the chip usage?

I think it was 130nm down to 90nm when it went to the FX. Which brought less power consumption with it I believe.

I believe that is true, if the chips are cheaper most likely. Were there ample amounts of FX chips produced most likely not.

If the iMac G5 were to get low powered chips there will be less need for 3 fans and noise issues (that some people have).

Then again you would not notice anything significant from the 970 to the FX except temperature and power usage.
