I've read a lot of posts suggesting to move the user's home directory to another HD if one is using SSD as a startup disk. I am unclear why this is recommended, can someone clarify? Is it because you don't want to fill up your SSD with data, or is it that the chances of the SSD failing are higher? If I don't store any of my documents in my home directory, am I loosing anything by leaving it on the SSD?

Thanks!

Home directory doesn't have any data that would really benefit from the SSD plus it gets some writes as all downloads etc go to the home directory. It's mainly done so that there won't be unnecessary writes and the more you fill the SSD, the slower it becomes. It's not needed but at least I would do that

Main reason is not to file up your small SSD disk... Generally many people like to seperate the system from data.
