Hi everyone,
I ordered a 12-core a couple weeks ago and it finally shipped yesterday. When my UPS tracking number finally became active, I noticed that my shipment had 3 packages, each at 50Lbs, and their own sub tracking numbers. I didn't order a cinema display with it either...
Anyone know what this means?

It comes in 4 core sections you have to assemble.
Seriously, I got nothing.

Better check your invoice, did you buy 3 Mac Pro's?

Nope, checked invoice, and credit card, definitely only charged for one...

It's probably something trivial like a summary of the built to order options and whatever else.
Maybe there's a new iLife '10 being announce this morning, and they're sending you discs to update the default installation of '09.

Keep us posted. I could always use a Mac Pro if you do get extra :D

Probably just a mistake on the UPS side of things. The Mac Pro does weigh over 50 pounds (depending on configuration).
Maybe Apple is starting a new buy 1 get 2 free program. :D

I guess its probably an error... but damn, if I get 3 Mac Pros... :D :p
Also, according to Apple, the Mac Pro 8-cores are about 42 pounds, plus packing, I'd say just about 50 pounds if not less

I'd just be super calm, like I was expecting them, until the door closes that is. :p
I'd sell the two and buy a base model 4-core to replace my mini server from last year... :D oh, and two 27" CD

The package should be around 65lbs, at least mine was via Fedex. Most likely an error . . .
But, did you order anything else from Apple?

The tracking says, "Billing information received." This means Apple set up 3 shipments, but does not know which tracking will be for the computer itself. So yes, for the time being it will be 50 lbs each. Once the machine ships, one tracking number will have the computer, while the other two will probably be accessories you ordered.
Did you get a free printer? That would ship separately…

Nope, nothing else, no AppleCare, no display adapters, no printer, no software, no nothing. I guess I'll find out in a soon.

looks like a scanning error on UPS' system. once its shipped it will probably clear. Happens seldom I've seen.

If you track each tracking number do they go to the same city? I recall getting tracking info once with multiple track numbers that went to multiple cities. I figure it's all shipped from one company (Apple in this case) to multiple buyers. Somehow UPS tied the shipments together via a reference number or something like it.

All coming to the same place, left same time, and all have the same status.

It's an "error", or basically incorrect because UPS don't know the weight yet and Apple have only told them the weight of the Mac Pro box.
My 2009 MP shipped in exactly the same fashion. Four boxes, all the same large weight, and eventually resolved to be the MP, AppleCare, 12South stand and printer.

Well one package is probably the I/O cabinet, the other is the cooling facility cabinet and the third is probably the CPU cabinet.
Thats how Cray shipped em, 3 packages.

Point still stands, UPS don't have the packages yet and are relying on bare bones information from Apple that is incorrect. Once UPS get their hands on it they'll change the system results.
