No Purchases of shows on device, no sale here.

Im not paying 20/$20 a year for EACH of the seasons of the shows i watch to be only able to watch each episode once.

Apple TV 2.0 = Fail.

back to DVD/blueray purchases for me.

None for me, I don't want to take a step backwards.

Definitely a step backwards. Sure it's cheaper, but really other than Netflix it's a bit of a bust.

They took half the functionality away, ruined the integration for people that had their own content libraries, and eliminated a way for people to keep content they intend to watch over and over again.

Oh - and they removed half the output connections, and forgot that 720p was cool 4 years ago.

I haven't pre-ordered, I'm debating it although I'll probably cave and order 1, it won't replace my current ATV though because sometimes if I want to watch a blu-ray rip or a large movie file I have to actually sync the movie to the ATV for it to play without an annoying stutter.. To lose the ability to sync is a step backwards, imo..

Did I miss something? You can still buy content on your computer and stream to the new :apple:TV The only thing removed was the internal drive..

They did increase the frame rate from 24 to 30 on 720p material too.

Good point.

I was looking for the old specs. I believe ATV was 802.11g only. Now it will work with 802.11n.

n might prevent the stuttering.

I could be wrong.

Either way, I am fine. I took a different route to solve the stuttering. I hooked both my computer and current ATV to Ethernet. My fingers were crossed until I was sure the new ATV had Ethernet. If it didn't I wouldn't have bought it yet.

I ordered one. Not everything I was hoping for, but $99 i'm more than willing to take a shot and see how I like it. Be interesting to compare to to my 2 "old" ATVs.

Hey do you think that I should wait to buy an Apple TV or buy now? I had wanted it to have iOS installed but nonetheless I think it will be a good product and at a cheap price. Do you think that if I buy now then I'll be burned when Apple iOS TV comes out?

Thanks

I've been thinking of trying that as well.. I have an airport extreme base station and was considering picking up an airport express to utilize the ethernet port on it, but then the airport express is still pulling from the wireless so I'm not so sure that will help reduce stuttering.. but yeah, I'd much rather have my ATV connected via hardwire if it was feasible, unfortunately it's not an option, ATV is in the living room, computer and networking equipment is all in my office..

I preordered one, but may change my mind before it ships... I don't like the fact that "local" media has been moved back under a separate "computers" tab like in the original OS. They should have left "My Movies", "My TV Shows", and "My Music" on the main menu.

Really? Why is that a big deal? I personally kind of like that all of my "local" media is now in one place, and not scattered across multiple tabs.

Exactly - it baffles me that the could have introduced such a major UI cluster. Leaving it alone would have taken nothing away from the new features, but makes it a serious annoyance for anyone with a 'mixed' content catalog.

It's a big deal if you rely on local content for anything other than occasional use, because now movies are scattered across multiple tabs (one of them 4-5 menu options deep), and TV shows are scattered across multiple tabs (one of them 4-5 menu options deep).

Think about it - how intuitive would you find it to use an iPod, and have to jump back and forth (a few menu clicks back, a few clicks over, 5 menu clicks down), just to switch between a song from iTunes, and a song that's off one of your CDs.

This is similarly awkward - movies are movies, regardless of where you get them from, and they shouldn't be split up in different areas. *Especially* given that the current/previous model has a "My Movies" option that gets automatically added if it sees you have local content - which means Apple made a conscious choice to take that feature out, and basically relegated local content to sleeping in the barn.

It was a stupid design choice - it would have cost them nothing to leave it alone, and make the device work intuitively for *both* rental and local content, but instead they've said "you're either renting everything or this device isn't for you". Intentionally crippling it just forces that user base to find an alternative...a shame, because that user base may have only rented 50% (or 20%, or 10%) of their content, but now they'll get it somewhere else...and buy someone else's box.

Can I still not use PayPal to purchase from Apple's online store? I'm ordering two (one as a gift that I'll need to have in a month), and I would like to use PayPal. I guess I'll have to reserve two at an Apple Store or wait until another retailer has it after release. Too bad there isn't a solid release date yet.

I ordered 3. I have the old Apple TV and stopped syncing it a long time ago. The new one is all I need it to be. If I buy movies I need them on my computer where I can send them to our iPads, iPhones and Apple TV if/when needed. Blu-ray will eventually go the way of the CD. Don't have that many and don't care to buy more. I just wish the studios would hurry up and make more of the movies downloadable.

Here in cali they do not charge sales tax. If you live here they will charge:

Items sold by Amazon.com LLC, or its subsidiaries, and shipped to destinations in the states of Kansas, Kentucky, New York, North Dakota, or Washington are subject to tax.

Should have saved it. You could have gotten $500 off a MacBook Pro (for example) instead of just $25 off a Apple TV ;).

its only $99 dollars you can't really get "burned" with that.

Ordered mine at 11:27PDT I kept refreshing the page as soon as the announcement took place. LOL

I am moving my old aTV to the bedroom and will run the new one on the main tv. It also "talked" me into signing up for netflix lol.
