By default, Finder doesn't calculate the sizes of aliases/symbolic links, folders and bundles (which are basically folders in disguise, such as applications). However you can set it to show them all as follows (although this can slow things down a bit):
  1. In Finder, open a new window
  2. Choose "Show View Options" from the View menu
  3. At the top, select "All windows"
  4. Check "Calculate all sizes" at the bottom
