Help!! Airport extreme 802.11 nin 64-bit?!

Hi,

I just bought a airport card from OWC:

but didn't realize the small print that states this card cant be used on a 2009 running in 64-bit mode.

So now I have an card (didn't install yet) and a 2009 Mac Pro in 64-bit mode. Is there anyway to make this work in 64-bit mode?

Since the card is from 2006, not much, unless you write 64-bit drivers.

If you're not running in 64 bit kernel mode, you're fine. You can still run 64 bit apps with this card.

If you don't know if you're running in 64 bit kernel mode, you aren't.

The wifi card that comes with a Mac Pro 2009/2010 runs in 64-bit kernel.

I think thats the wrong card if it doesn't work with 64bit 10.6!

Are you certain the card is from 2006?...802.11n wasn't widely available then. This card supports 802.11n.

Since the card is from 2006, not much, unless you write 64-bit drivers.

I didn't get the card when I purchased the Mac Pro. I want to add WiFi now and bought the card from OWC but missed the fine print that stated "*This card works with new 2009 and 2010 Mac Pro BUT not in 64-BIT mode."

It says so on the image of the card at least, thus my assumption might be wrong, as any image could be used anyway.

Huh. That must be an Airport card for the 2006 Mac Pro.

Perhaps this is why the 2006 Mac Pro doesn't support 64 bit kernel?

I called the local Apple Store and inquired about the AirPort card. They told me I would have to make a Genius Bar appointment and bring my Mac Pro in for them to install the card. BTW, $50 for card and installation.

They won't just sell me the card. How does that make sense? They want me to haul my machine in to install a card the size of a quarter?? I'm perfectly capable of doing this myself. The manager is going to call me back.

I would rather risk and do it myself than risk a genius bar weenie to modify MY machine.
