Don't hold your breath - there's probably a reason for it not liking your card.

worked fine on my:
dual 1.8ghz G5
2gb ram
dual 250gb hd's in raid 1
stock video card
all i can say is ****ING AMAZING. i have been wanting to try apple motion for a idea, and wow.
i watched the sample videos online to get a idea of how to use it
easy, fast (given my system), and very cool
i was hesitant to buy Motion a: due to the price and b: i only had 1 project in mind to use it for, but now i think i've changed my mind and may spring for it very soon.
few notes about the trial
a: cant save
b: new projects have watermark of apple logo and motion on them, be it white background or black
on the flip side, the thing i wanted to do is 700 x 100 px and it was small enough to avoid the water marks
and my goal was to do it was a animated gif image.
exported just fine to about 150 files (150 frame project)
imported that to Image Ready, it sorted them automatically and added them with a 0sec delay
save optimized animation as gif and i was done
seriously thow, im amazed. i dont do this kinda work often (if at all) and i was able to jump right in, no problems.
if u need this / do this kind of work, Apple deserves the $300 (no, i dont work for them)

Aye, Motion is a great piece of software, I just finished the Apple Pro Training Series book on it. It is very powerfull and the realtime aspect really saves time when you are trying to get the feel of certain scenes. It's amazing that Apple sells this software for $300, it is really awsome and dare I say it, revolutionary.

Downloaded the trial. Works ok on my 1.33 17" PB (although smoke slows down the realtime loop considerably).
Sufficiently impressed, and given that my projects are simple home stuff (& shouldn't overload the PB too much), I went out and bought it today so I can do simple animations to inflict on family and friends.
It is e-e-a-s-y to use, and - I agree with panaflex - potentially revolutionary (vis-a-vis Garageband).

There is none. Motion gets its good performance by offloading most of its rendering into the video card. If you don't have a card that can handle the work, the program won't run.

Nice idea with the trial, i have downloaded it and it looks a great piece of software if it were relevant to what i do.
But it doesn't run as well as i thought it would on my imac G5, maybe it is the budget FX 5200 in my imac that is slowing it up but it is really hard to work in real time and add filters/behaviours and effects.
Anyone care to comment?
It is rendering at something like 2200 by 2000 along those lines.

This is not surprising.
All the heavy-lifting done by Motion is performed by the video card, and not the CPU. A 1GHz G4 with a high-end video card may likely perform better than a 2.5GHz G5 with a low-end video card.
Unfortunately, as an iMac owner, you don't have the option of upgrading your video hardware.

Thought so, i didn't buy the imac for video/graphics rendering as i am into music creation (hoping to buy Reason soon) and using general apps like idvd/imovie/itunes/ical/mail e.t.c
If for any reason i get into video/graphics rendering i will def go with a Powermac with a new graphics card (if they bring out pci-express soon).
Still looks like a wikid piece of software, in a few mins i edited some pretty cool clips :) Shame they took off the saving facility :P but very nice how you have access to every loop/effect e.t.c

Ya, I know... just hoping to try it out on my current machine, get some more play time then I can at the Apple stores, and produce some demo material and force the powers at be for the proper upgrade. ;) Soon, oh yes, SOON

with the new PowerBook - see the MWSF announcement details jan 2005-
(15" - upgrade to 1.67 Ghz G4, BT/AE built in, 80 GB, Backlit keyboard standard, Mobility Radeon 9800 (128 MB VRAM))
Can I use Motion software with acceptable performance ? (ram ???)
Or it is better to look for a IMAC with a excellent memory & graphic card ?
