I have a Sony DVCAM and seems very very old now, I need to record a DVD of the film on my MacBook Pro. I have the relevant lead I think, Firewire 6 pin and it fits into the DV IN/OUT on the camera. But I am unsure where to go from there. I was hoping when conected and turned on, a program would come up and ask me to insert a DVD?! Any ideas please?

Thank you, I thought this would have been it but just tried it and it says:

To use OneStep DVD, connect your digital video camera to your computer using a FireWire cable. Then turn on your camera and make sure it's in VCR mode.

Click OK and insert a blank disc. OneStep DVD rewinds the tape, imports your video, and burns it to a DVD.

However when I do this there is no response at all, its almost like its not reading that my camera is there even though Ive conected the leads?

Open Applications / Utilities / System Profiler > Hardware > Firewire to see, if your camera is recognised.

below image is an example, you can ignore the arrow
