I travel a lot, outside the us. I have no problems renting movies and buying tv shows on my old apple tv outside the us, with my us iTunes account.

Would I still be able to do these things plus stream netflix with the new apple tv?

So long as you have a registered netflix account (US), then you should be ok. Check their Terms and Conditions.

No you can not Stream content outside of the us with netflix even if you have a netflix account unless your running a proxy with a us ip address. How would you know Your from the UK?

I'm 100% positive you can't. It violates Netflix licensing agreements with the studios. Netflix servers read your IP server address and if it is outside the US, they will not let you stream. VPN or proxy server is the only way.

You have to connect to VPN on our router as described in this tutorial (http://thomasfals.com/how-to-use-netflix-on-the-apple-tv-2-from-outside-the-us/)
