I have been noticing strange pixels forming patterns when I have an all black or white image. I took a picture of it, and you can see it from the photo. It looks like a red pattern across the screen and it actually moves with the application if I grab the window and move it around.
Here is a photo with a box around the problem.

Not sure if it's bad ram on the card or something else.

Yeah when watching movies it is noticable in VLC on OSX too. I am thinking it is bad ATI ram on the card.

Normally thats sign of cable interference . . . usually because it's a sub-par cable. Have another cable to try? Is it DVI or MDP?

It's DVI. I do not have this problem with my other computer. It only happens with the Mac Pro.

Would that even happen from the cable? DVI is Digital. Not Analogue.

I think you need to swap the video card.

I had this happen to my display while in OSX:

password: macpro
It went away after I pulled the DVI cable out and reseated the cable. So is it the cable, or the card?

I have had ALL DVI monitors since probably 2003, and I have run into bad cables that caused weird pixel colors. Swapped the cables and all was well, so, it sounds like a cable problem. Look for kinks or harsh bends.

I haven't reseated the card. Is there documentation for that on a mac Pro? It look looked pretty forign to me when it came to pulling the card out. I tried to test another cable, but I purcashed a non Dual link DVI.
Isn't there a video card memory test I can run? It still doesn't explain why the display works perfectly for my MacBook Pro at the same resolution, but I constantly have issues with the macpro.

Read the manual that came with your Mac Pro on the section regarding adding expansion cards.

Maybe it is related to this Sept 9th post re: same?

I have a feeling the issue with the Display is a grounding issue with the macpro, and the graphics card. I notice a lot of strange behavior that seems to happen when my AC unit turns on. I am going to try a power conditioner later tonight.
