Clean install on SSD question?

Hi,

I am sure there is an answer for this somewhere, but I can't find it. I have tried, honest.

Is there any reason why you should not do a new clean OSX install directly onto an SSD from you MP install disks? For one reason or another, generally people seem to clone another drive, but is this necessary.

I tried this method and it took ages and eventually failed to install. I am not sure why this is the case. Before I try again, I thought I would ask you guys.
