View Full Version : Boot G4 from a USB external drive?

I have a G4 "sawtooth running OSX 10.4.11. Is it possible to boot this mac from an external USB2.0 drive?

Nope, not possible. Only on intel macs. You can use firewire though.

PS: Use mroogle (http://mroogle.edesignuk.com/) to search for this topic before you post. There are a bunch of threads on it.

If you use super duper to clone to a USB2 drive, it should come up in the boot menue.... - Just hold "option" key down during reboot.

Did it on a Powerbook 12"

Officially, it’s only Intel based Macs that support booting from an external USB; but you could have a look at these articles:
