I'm having trouble installing new fonts for display in Safari and I'm wondering if there is another step I need. There are 2 fonts specifically that I can't get to display. Recently I downloaded a Rune font (Futhorc - the Anglo-Saxon Runes) and installed it, yet Safari refuses to display the new font when I go to a webpage that uses a Rune font, such as the Wikipedia entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Runic_alphabet). I have a similar problem with Devanagari script (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devanagari) - Safari won't display it, despite the fact that I have downloaded several devanagari fonts and installed them. This is rather frustrating. I'm a lingustics student and it would really be quite helpful if I could get Safari to display these fonts correctly when I go to webpages that use them.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

-DaveHave you restarted Safari after installing the fonts?

Devanagari works fine for me and I've added no fonts to my system - they're included in the unicode set, AFAIK.
As for your runic font issues, go into Font Book and see if they're listed there - if not try adding them from that app and see what happens.

Yep, the runic font is in my font book (as are the devanagani fonts). When I go to a web page that uses devanagani, all I see is this -->"?" for every single character; it seems to be a placeholder used in the absence of the font. (if that doesn't show properly for you, it is a square tile with the "ka" devangani character enclosed in it)
Perhaps that wikipedia link was a bad one since it contains an image of devanagani font that looks exactly like text; follow the link below it to the hindi wikipedia site - can you see the devanagani on that page?

Nope devanagari works fine using Apple's fonts - was OS X installed with the extra fonts for Asian/etc. languages?

Yea, I have have no trouble viewing most other languages, asian or arab, et al, but the two that I mentioned before are still not showing up. I am about to give up. I suppose it doesn't much matter, but it is rather frustrating that I can't get these to display correctly.

My only suggestion is to remove all the fonts you installed and try devanagari again with Apple's font and then try to find a new runic font. Here's some more info that may help you troubleshoot: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25754
