My Ram Mount iPad car mount (http://www.ram-mount.com/CatalogResults/PartDetails/tabid/63/partid/082065077045066045051049054045049045065080056/Default.aspx) arrived today.

First impressions is that it is very basic. It has a plastic iPad holder, rigid flexible aluminum rod with flex wrap, metal ball head and floor bracket. No instructions were included but it seems very self explanatory to install and use.

I will post pics later.

Just got it installed. Took about 10 minutes because I had a little trouble getting the bolt to catch the threads.

Based on my schedule the rest of the night, I will not be able to take pics and post them until tomorrow.

Isn't the iPad a little big for the car?

The placement looks rather odd and awkward but I guess it depends on what you'll be using it for.

Well i would have to say Ram mount are nice, but there are better ones out there and fit better than Ram. As they mostly universal and not cheap.
I have used Pro clip with much better results and look better too and are made to fit a specific vehicle too.

Thanks for the comments.

I personally do not think the iPad is too big for the car. Using the Maps and GPS is great. Controlling/selecting music on the bigger screen is better. I personally think it is the perfect size for the car.

I looked into the ProClip ones, but did not want something attached to the dashboard and blocking my vents.

Here are the pics as promised.

This is what comes in the box. Not much.

A nice snug fit. Holder is just plastic, but a very solid plastic.

OP...sorry to go off track....but can you tell me what brand of power plug that is with the 4 USB slots?

The mount actually looks very interesting. Might have to contemplate for my Honda Odyssey.

I got it at: http://www.usbfever.com/index_eproduct_view.php?products_id=249

I have successfully had two iPad's and two DSi's plugged and charge, albeit VERY slow.

will my invisible shield back-piece (and side pieces) fit on this car mount? Thanks.

Looks great! I wish I had a use for my iPad in the truck, right now it'd be pointless but when the next JB comes out i'll be using an external gps, and probably buy this mount.

I came upon your post while doing some research on the ram mount system you installed. I have heard mixed things about it and would like some first hand knowledge. Is it stable while driving or does it move a lot? Also, might you be able to upload or send a video of it in use if it moves? I have seen brief reviews but no one has posted a video of it in use. I am using this for work (paramedic) as a GPS replacement and personal use so it must be stable. I like the ease of installation and the look but I can't have something that wobbles about.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry that I have been back here to see this message.

If you are looking for something that is 100% stable and doesn't move at all, then this is not for you. It does have some slight movement. I will try to capture a video later today and post it tonight.

Keep in mind that it not all over the place and limp and won't stay up, it just wiggles a little while the car is moving and when you tap it, it gives way just a bit.

It is hard to explain, so I will try to get the video and hopefully it will show you the best.

You might want to invest in a new car stereo with AUX-in such as the Alpine CDE-W235BT (http://amzn.to/Y6beWc) (or Alpine CDE-212 (http://amzn.to/WSkGcW) plus an adapter to double-height (http://amzn.to/WVpyjl)), which would vastly improve the sound quality.

Fantastic! I'll be looking forward to the video. Very much appreciated.

OP- Hate to bring back and old thread but I don't see many people using this one. I'm really considering the Ram Mount for my Cobalt. I'd go with the mount for my iPad and the additional attachment for mount my iPhone. A few questions for you -

You've been using this for a few years. Any additional feedback?

Is the pole long enough and provide enough of an angle to allow the people in the back seat to watch a movie?

Would you recommend this to others that were looking for an iPad mount?

Thank you!

Any video yet?

I'm highly considering this for my car with a a regular size or mini version. I just hope it doesn't shake too much while driving!

I still have this on my list of things to get. My front seats doesn't have bolts in to secure the front of them but there are bolts in the rear. A longer rod should allow me to mount it there and then route it to the location that I need. I called about this and was told that they can provide one that is 30" long. I think that is what I'm going to go with.

The way I think I will have it set up is -

30" rod
Non-locking cradle
Phone mount
U-Bolt mount for the phone mount

$140.60 total ($83.00 without the additional phone mount)

With that it will be the iPad then a cradle for the phone mounted off to the side of it.

Its well designed and made but I think it makes you look like a taxi driver, but I guess if you were a taxi driver then this would be an ideal mount?
