I just got off with a chat on the Apple Store. They said it can only play podcasts that are on your machine. But you cannot browse podcasts on the aTV and watch them instantly

Apple Store Chat:

Me: I'm a little confused regarding the new Apple TV
Me: On the new Apple TV (without my pc running), can I browse podcasts and then watch them instantly
Them: You cannot, you will need to have your PC running.

To be fair, I bet they give their sales reps very little training on the features and functionality of the current AppleTV... hopefully that will change with the new model introduction.

I think the reason for this is so that they don't spill anything before people actually get their hands on it.

This has been answered, but I’ll add to it.

If you wanted to browse the iTunes Store and stream an audio or video podcast from there on the new Apple TV you would click Internet, then Podcasts.

If you wanted to playback an already downloaded audio or video podcast on the new Apple TV from your Mac you would click Computers, your Mac and then Podcasts.
