I guess it had to happen sooner or later. Apple Australia was predicting shortages back in October saying that they would be able to sell 1 Million units if they could get enough stock. There seem to be enough of them in Auckland NZ at this stage and they are certainly getting full media coverage. Lets hope we have enough supplies to get through Christmas.

There was an article posted here or on Apple Insider a few weeks ago here on macbytes that Apple was going to stop delivery of iPods and iMac G5s to third party retailers, thus is you buy them from Apple, they will ship, jsut the third party people are having problems.

I do see stacks of iPod mini's of each color in all the apple stores I go to. So Shortage ... maybe after the last weekend of shopping before xmas, which is this weekend.

Last week all the Pods were listed as same day shipping, now some of them aren't.

Here's the current shipping estimates from Apple:
Same day: mini blue, Photo 40, Photo 60
1-3 days: mini pink, mini green, mini silver, 20GB, 40GB, U2
3-5 days: mini gold

I wonder what it will look like at the end of the week.

To be expected, I suppose, and not all bad news. Bodes well for Apple actually shipping the quantity they projected for the quarter (assuming they didn't project more than they could produce), and clears out the inventory in anticipation of any possible MWSF announcements, particularly if there really is a 5GB mini and a Flash micro coming.
I'm glad I already got my wife's pink mini and my daughter's U2 model wrapped and stowed in the closet.

The Apple Stores seem to actually sell out of some of the models, but then if you call again the next day they will have gotten a new shipment.

Picked up a 4th gen, selling 3rd gen, from the Regent Street store today and they seem to have loads of minis in store on show but i heard two of the stuff talking about very few 20gb's.
Inevitable i guess, i can't wait to see how many globally they sell! If it is close to 4 million....that is incredible. Well done Apple, portable music is clearly on everyone's agenda for now at least.
