Hello, iPhone nub here.

I've had my iPhone for a few months now and I herd/saw people on blogs/forums/videos people talking about SMS. Now I have this app on my iPhone that it came with, known as: "Messages" with the little blank word bubble. I have seen screen shots of SMS and it looks the exact same? so... is there a difference?
Is SMS better for some reason? I don't quite understand. someone willing to explain please =3?

Useful info that people Usually ask for when asking for an electronic devices help:

- iPhone 3Gs
- 4.0.1
- Cydia

SMS is the application that lets you text. They're the same thing in layman's terms.

You already have "it." They're the exact same thing. Just two different words that both refer to the same app/service.

SMS is merely the application. Texting is more of a slang term used across the board. It is Short Message Service aka Texting. Both 160 character limit on non-smart phones and all that jazz.

If I remember right the app was called SMS till 3.0 and then after that it became Messages, maybe due to the fact that was when picture messaging was activated?

The US has always been behind the rest of the world when it comes to SMSing. The US also uses texting instead of SMS.

I've been back in the US for more than 3 years after spending almost 9 in SE Asia and I still call it SMS 90% of the time.

Next episode, we'll get into the Metric system.

SMS - Short Message Service
MMS - Multimedia Messaging Service

The early iPhone firmwares had the icon that said "SMS" because it was limited to sending only text messages to your contacts. When Apple updated the app to allow sending photos, audio messages, video etc. they changed it to just say "Messages"
