iPod touch Mac gets hot while syncing iPod touch 4th gen

As the title says, my processor has peaked up to 215° F while syncing to my iPod. I've tried to synchronize things in batches, even this morning from a cold stat, but my processor went from 95° to 202° in under a minute, and I aborted the sync. Curiously, it almost always gets hotter more slowly than that. Any tips or solutions?

Also, activity monitor put iTunes at using 1.3 GB of virtual memory and 176-186% processor.

100% corresponds to one core. Macs generally have processors with multiple cores, therefore the CPU percentage can exceed 100%. There must be a less bizarre way of reporting CPU usage, you would think.

Macs naturally get really hot when syncing iPods, the exact same thing as when they use flash. The majority of the time I sync my iPod touch the cooling fans on my MacBook kick in in about a minute
