View Full Version : iPhone app development on an eMac - Tiger or Leopard?

Do you actually need Leopard to develop apps for iOS or would Tiger be OK?

Tiger is running so much smoother on an eMac and in my personal opinion, OS 10.4 is just so much more stable. I always adored Tiger and now I am selling an older eMac that I don't use and the person buying it wants to know.

Meanwhile, I'm just thinking that I should give app development a go. Not professionally, not paying the fee for Apple, but as a hobby, just to create a silly little app that I can test on my jailbroken iPhone and say - 'I've done that'. :)

I have Intel Macs (2.53GHz unibodies), but I would keep another eMac - which one should I use? Or is it even possible to get hold of the software without paying for Apple and going 'live' on the App Store? (I don't want to do anything illegal, that's why I'm asking, so don't recommend torrent and Piratebay!)

Many thanks for any suggestions!

Officially iPhone SDK will not run on PPC, but... unoficially you can make it work: http://linuxclub.blogspot.com/2008/07/iphone-sdk-installtion-on-powerpc-g4.html, http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19512_7-10115416-233.html
Leo is minimum OS for older versions, for newer is SL. IIRC last Leo compatible version of iPhone SDK was 3.1.4.
