A friendly reminder about Apple's warnings:
Important: Please read before installing
* If you have a third-party FireWire hard drive connected, turn it off and disconnect it before installing this update. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is complete and you've restarted.
* You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-party system software modifications, or if you have modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
* The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer from Apple Downloads to update.

Apple can get 10.3.8 and 10.3.9 away before running out of 'room'... note that 10.2 went through to 10.2.8 before 10.3 came out so if history is a past guide then expect at least one more 10.3 release before Tiger moves into view.
Haven't downloaded it yet - just wants to get into the first 10 replies.... :D

All I can say is, Apple better release Tiger soon. They're running out of mathematical room for fractional updates for 10.3!
Why is that? Although 10.3.7 came pretty soon after 10.3.6, the usual cycle for updates was 2-3 months. So if Apple keeps it that way, 10.3.8 will be out in mid to late February and 10.3.9 in early May. :)

Every thing seems well on mine.
Apple have plenty of room for versions numbers:
10.3.9
10.3.10
10.3.11
10.3.12
and so on...
The sub version numbers don't stop at 9

Apple says 10.3.7 includes previous security updates. That's true, but it doesn't include two of them:
Security Update 2004-09-16
Security Update 2004-10-27
The other thing 10.3.7 does not include is Java 1.4.2 Update 2.
I just opened up a brand new 14" iBook and I'm applying all the updates right now.
Just to clarify, those two security updates and the java update showed up in my software update AFTER I installed 10.3.7, upon restarting the computer.

Any idea if the DNS problems that PLAGUED 10.3.5-6 are fixed yet? This is by far the biggest issue that needed to be fixed, affecting at least half of all Mac users I know, and as of yet has still not been acknowledged by Apple.
edit: there it is
Resolves an issue in which Safari, Mail, and other networking applications that use DNS lookups could experience intermittent connectivity issues with Security Update 2004-09-30 and Mac OS X 10.3.5 or later installed.

MINE say 10.3.9.2.1.2.7b, the one that turns off the G5's ability to play Brittney Spears and N' Sync CD's.
Seriously, I live on the edge. I just started updating 14 Xserves to 10.3.7 sight unseen. Call me an idiot, or call me a fool, but I have a good feeling about this update. If I crash and burn, anybody need a new tech director?

Just did the update on my G5 which I just wiped clean and started over with yesterday. Of course the wiping clean made everything way better and because this is all I have been doing for the last 24 hours I have a lot of time on just checking stability and "snappiness" of everything. So far (though tough to tell conclusively) I am liking 10.3.7 better. UT2003 seems more fluid. Window openening seems smoother and quicker. iDVD seems to open quicker and show the menu animation a bit more fluidly. Nothing seems broken. (Not everything tested of course.) So far so good though. :)

I don't know about that checking. In the past there have been different size updates depending on the last update you had but it seems to me that they have maybe a few different update packages but not so specific as to check all the hardware configs etc. If you aren't having any problems now though I would wait until you install the new card. A few days shouldn't kill you.

Fixed my issues with 10.3.6. DVD Player would cause my CRT display to flicker if it was running in a window or full-screen on my powerbooks display. Also the info wouldn't go away regardless of what the preferences were set to. The display doesn't flicker anymore, still had to delete the DVD Player prefs plist file to get the info window to go away. Did anyone else have these issues? I can't find a reference to them anywhere.
Also it supposedly fixed a bug where unplugging devices/even leaving firewire devices plugged in while the powerbook slept would cause it to not wake up properly. I know unplugging my external monitor while the book was sleeping has caused it to freak out forever, that would be a nice fix. Also I have an isight on order, so hopefully that's a problem I just won't have to deal with.

After the update my Que! 100MByte drive mounts MUCH quicker. In 10 seconds instead of 30 seconds, a minute or NEVER. Often had to start and stop the drive a couple of times or reboot my mac to get it to show up.
Also, I always had trouble with DV video captures sitting on the hard drive. I could open in QT MoviePlayer and scrub the video no problem. But if I hit play .... bye bye. WOuld hang up. Now plays fine!

Anyone here know if this fixes the internal bluetooth problem on new G5 iMacs. Often the bluetooth module is not activated. Must usually do a restart or 2 to get the bluetooth module activated. Also I hope it fixes the printing problem (to HP Color Laser 3500) where after several printed pages the Mac loses connection to printer and only way to reestablish connection is a restart. The printing problem first began after update to 10.3.6.

I'm running this updated version on an iMac G5 20'' 1.8GHz w/ 1.25GB of RAM, and everything definitely seems snapppier! And you know what was the first thing I tried to do? To check on the iTunes visualizer, because I still haven't installed any FPS games since I had to reinstall Panther. And... WOW! It doesn't drop frames anymore! It's finally usable, IMHO.
Besides, the updated Preview app is much better now!

I'm pretty sure all the graphics drivers get installed regardless of what is installed, but it shouldn't matter in your case anyway, since I believe ATI has a downloadable driver package specifically designed for their retail cards.
Only having a builtin, I'm not positive about that, but I seem to remember it noting that the control panel it installs gives access to features on both OEM and retail cards, but the drivers used will differ depending on whether it's an Apple OEM or ATI retail.
Doesn't hurt to install it before the card, in any case, since there are a few nice features it adds and it doesn't hurt anything.

Standlone installers will also be available, for updating from Mac OS X 10.3.6 to 10.3.7 (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxupdate_10_3_7.html) and for updating from Mac OS X 10.3, 10.3.1, 10.3.2, 10.3.3, 10.3.4, 10.3.5, or 10.3.6 to 10.3.7 (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxcombinedupdate_10_3_7.html).
So... does each 10.3.x revision take longer to release (from Final Candidate to actual download) because Apple has to create more upgrade-path calculations?
They have to test every upgrade-path version, right?
Maybe that's why .7 didn't make the Tuesday release date.

Well I'm anxious to hear if this update has really screwed w/ anyone's machine in terms of their 3rd party apps like CandyBar, Synergy, Quicksilver etc. I'm still running 10.3.3 on my 15" AL PB 1.25 Ghz b/c of all of the horror stories I've read on this forum & others. I'd really like to do this software upgrade mostly b/c I want to give Apple's Motion software a trial run & I don't think it will run on anything less than 10.3.6. So any advice for a newb? Should I go ahead w/ an Archive & Install? I just repaired my permissions & I'm not sure what else I should do before I decide to give this update a whirl. I don't want to try to fix anything that ain't broke but at the same time if it'll make my machine run better I'd like to give it a try. Let me know what you guys think :)

I am new to Mac's and I would like to know what procedures I should take before updating. Thanks!
I don't do too much before, some people back up files with third party software to CDs, DVDs, or External drives WHICH THEY UNPLUG BEFORE UPDATING! But after the install, it's good to "Repair Permissions." Go to your Applications folder, click on the Utilities folder and click on "Disk Utility," select your hard drive and click "Repair Permissions." This is good to do every month or two, especially after updating software or the OS.
There's no need to de-fragment Mac OS X at any time; it's done after installing software and updating the OS (when the install is done, you'll notice the status bar says "Optimizing hard drive," or something to that effect-- this is code for de-fragmenting the file system).

Ok, here's some specific UT framerate data. ONS Torlan, 7 bots, full version of UT2004 with the latest patch.
On 10.3.6, I got an average of 23-24 frames per second during the game. After updating to 10.3.7, I consistently get 29-30 fps, and when the action isn't heavy, it it goes nearly up to 55-60.

Has anyone else noticed this? When you change your desktop's resolution by either playing a game or start the iTunes visualizer (fullscreen), you have a drop shadow in your menu bar when you return to your desktop. Additionally, when you use Exposé's "Clear Desktop" function, a black rectangle also quickly appears and then disappears ("flies to the nearest corner").
It's really strange and it has been there for a while, but 10.3.7 doesn't fix it. :(

Have started to update my macs now, after seeing very few issues from you guys. I usually start with the least critical, an old G4-450, and work up to my G5-D2.5 which has my important stuff on.
So far so good, except that is for my usual issue since X.3.5.
When I update, my network settings are reset (it assigns itself a static IP address), and somehow my router is affected. No problem reassigning DHCP info and getting each mac to see each other, but no internet over LAN to updated macs (but still have it to macs not updated)
In the past, a few restarts of the router usually does the trick, but I'll have to wait as some macs are still d/l ing the X.3.7.
Anyone also have this? Any ideas why this occurs?

So far, that strategy has worked quite well for me. I guess I figure, "It'll probably work, and I backup often." If the system hoses, I can just archive-reinstall and get it back. Unix is soooo nice that way.

And thanks to admford for posting those benchmarking results, those are very interesting - it's neat to see how an update actually affects certain apps, etc.
Heh, no problem, had my old benchmarks saved, just had to run XBench for a minute to get new ones up. But the speed up is deffinately noticeable. Most programs start up faster (not only Safari) and it seems Quartz implementation has been improved on (along with the drivers possibly) and over all compiling of the OS seems to be slightly better optimized.

Does this update include native support for the Pioneer DVR-108 ??
Nope - just installed and am in the process of checking out my system...
My guess is that if Apple starts including the dual-layer Pioneer drives in its systems upgrade at MacWorld in January, we'll see support in 10.3.8 or 10.3.9. If they don't, then I don't think this is going to happen for Panther and we'll have to upgrade to Tiger to get native support.
Though honestly, I haven't really missed Apple's burn support much -- I've found Toast a much more reliable and better-equipped alternative.
No big problems with this update yet, unlike the nightmare of 10.3.6 that happened to me. Or, to quote Han Solo, "Um, everything's OK. Situation normal. How are you?"

It's a bit early to tell but I am not noticing the memory leak I found right after installing 10.3.6, so that's a great thing. If other things work better, I'm all for it. However, networking is still no better for me...10.3.4 was the best...or 10.2.8.

It's cool to read in apple's release notes that they taylored the patch to fix WoW. My Mail took almost 40 sec to close but as soon as Virex stopped scanning my Mail closed right away, so just make sure your not running Virex scanning, and see if that makes a difference. (Never had slow opening however so this might not help you)

I am using the following in 10.3.5. Is anyone else using any of these and has upgrades and if so do they still work?
iMote
PithHelmet
XKeys/FKey Listener
MenuMeters
Palm
HP Director (AIO HP Officejet 7130)
A-Dock
Sogudi (in Safari)
Carbon Copy Cloner
X-Plane 7.21
Nomad MG
Any specific incompatibilities? (Wow - there's a word with a lot of eyes.)
I have a PowerBook Pismo 500MHz, two colorful clamshell iBooks 300MHz(?), an PowerBook Lombard 400MHz and a PowerMac G4 500MHz. Anyone tried updating these older models yet?
One specific problem I am having with 10.3.5 is the Pismo and Lombard PowerBooks not recognizing batteries properly. Anyone have this and is it fixed in 10.3.7?
Similarly one of the iBook's Airport cards works in 9.2 but is sporatically missing in action under OS X. Anyone every have that and if so any fix including 10.3.7?
Speaking of things working, are the temperature measurements on the CPU back or is that still dead? I loved the temp measurement and on my PowerBooks it seemed quite accurate and consistant.
Is Safari or Mail better? Both get horribly slow in 10.3.5 at times.

I know it doesn't say anything about an iSync update but it does mention better Bluetooth support for mobile phones, my question being has anyone with a Nokia 7610 discovered that they can now iSync? I shouldn't install this update until it's qualified by Digidesign but I'm going crazy waiting for iSync support for syncML synchronization.
Unfortunately the Apple support discussions forums have been down for hours so I can't tell from there. :(
This update didn't do anything for iSync and my Nokia 6620. Although i didn't expect it to. I am hoping tha they get this working in Tiger.

Just checking in to report no ill effects from the update on 3 machines--G4 Cube, iBook 700, MDD 1ghz. All machines run Macaroni and ClearDock--iBook also runs SideTrack. No bad behavior from any of those either.

Safari and mail seem to be much faster on my 800Mhz PBG4 after upgrading to 10.3.7.
The only hitch that I've noticed is that after installing 10.3.7 is that my optical Kensington USB mouse in a box stopped working after restarting. An unplug/reconnection of the mouse solved that problem.
Have any folks out there running 10.3.x server with ATTO Technology SCSI cards tried the 10.3.7 server upgrade yet? 10.3.5 caused RAIDS attached to ATTO UL4D and UL43 to "disappear". 10.3.6 supposedly corrected that problem and I was going to upgrade my fileserver over this Christmas break when the students were gone. And now 10.3.7 comes out! Crossing my fingers that my carbon copy clone will go smooth when upgrading my file server from 10.3.3 server to 10.3.7

Apparently the Sound/Volume Problem affecting many MDD G4 Towers in Mac OSX 10.3.6 is still present in version 10.3.7. Come on Apple, get your act together! Many of us submitted a bug report after 10.3.6 was initially released and yet this problem is still present in 10.3.7. What the heck did Apple spent their time on in preparations of version 10.3.7. This is better not be the last version of Panther, this is unacceptable!
Tiger better have this sound problem affecting MDD owners taken care of.

The dock went crazy on me just now. It keeps disappearing and i lose icons on it. The window system is going haywire also. Windows aren't observing levels. The only thing that I have installed that I have any suspicion is Konfabulator and Adium (Adium starts leaking memory sometimes and I have to quit and restart it). Maybe this restart will fix it.

Repair permissions, of course.
Force maintenance from terminal:
sudo periodic daily

Force update prebinding:

Well I did all of that and I know what the permissions and periodics do, but what does update_prebinding do and why do we force it? (btw its running right now :) )

Everything seems to work afterthe upgrade.
The only annoying thing I have found is it takes about 20 seconds longer to boot up than before (all of it spinning beachball).
Also, when logging into a second account, there is about 10 seconds of spinning beachball everytime.
I have repeated this many times and keep getting the same behaviour.
Anyone else observe this as well?

That's not a bug...
That is a little line telling you that the permissions are set differently then what the OS would think, but it's ok. It is supposed to be that way so that it isn't changed by the OS and get messed up. There is a line of code you can insert into a file to make it stay a certain permission.

Well I did all of that and I know what the permissions and periodics do, but what does update_prebinding do and why do we force it? (btw its running right now :) )
Prebinding makes programs load faster.
When a program wants to run a piece of code in another file (library), the OS has to load that file, then it has to jump the CPU to where the file loaded.
What predinding does is decide beforehand where it will load each external file so it can put the jump address in now instead of when you run the program.

Hey, let's see if there's a discussion on MR.
Whole thing only takes a couple minutes. :)
So far, that strategy has worked quite well for me. I guess I figure, "It'll probably work, and I backup often." If the system hoses, I can just archive-reinstall and get it back. Unix is soooo nice that way.

After installing the update on my 15" 1.5 PB, I'm having some troubles with Pro Tools/MBox. The program always crashes on first run, but then works fine on the second. Also, the names of all the inserts are garbled, and the piano roll is missing on medium-sized midi tracks.

I installed 10.3.7, restarted, everything seems fine. My 3rd party apps are fine.
Then it hits me.
Mail.app takes literally 40 seconds to launch. And that's after the icon stops bouncing in the dock.
I might be switching to Thunderbird, much as I hate to say it...
Same problem here -- Mail.app icon bounces once or
twice in the Dock, then there's a 40 second lag before
the main window and menu bar appear. I don't think it
has to do with the connection process, b/c normally (at
least in my config) Mail first opens local copies of the
mbox files, displaying them first, before connecting to
and updating from my IMAP server. At this point,
nothing shows up for 40 seconds...
I've tried repairing permissions, updating prebindings,
rebooting, etc., before and after the update. I've tried
this with no other apps running. No luck, for me, Mail
opens much more slowly now than in 10.3.6.

I still have a DNS issue that 10.3.7 does not fix.
When connected directly to the ethernet I can use RealPlayer to stream radio. However when I connect the ethernet to my Airport Express RealPlayer cannot find the DNS entry. Every other networking app I have is fine under both modes except realplayer an earlier (I forget about 6-8 weeks ago) security update created the problem and I hoped 10.3.7 would fix it.
Anyone else with this issue or similar?

All I can say is, Apple better release Tiger soon. They're running out of mathematical room for fractional updates for 10.3!
I'd just like to point out... they aren't fractions. They are version numbers, three levels deep that just happen to be separated by the period character. They could just as easily be separated by a full or semi colon. So there is no reason why the version numbers couldn't be 10.3.10, or 10.3.11, etc. Just look at it as, 10:3:11, or 10;3;11. A fractional number with 2 decimal points just doesn't make sense.

10.3.5 = killer fps in Diablo II 50-60fps+ in battles, 100fps+ in cities
10.3.6 = Sludge fest when in battles, fps would drop to under 10fps with many enemies on the screen
10.3.7 = Closer to .5 performance versus .6 100fps+ in cities and low activity, 40-50fps+ in battles.

G4/400/AGP and the verdict is?
Doesn't really seem snappier as many have said - but this is an old machine. It doesn't seem slower either. The one thing though is that NOW I can set my monitor to a great resolution (1600x1200) and that wasn't possible previously. Maybe I'll pickup a new monitor now as a christmas gift.
One thing I don't like, as this goes for another machine too, if you have alot of bookmarks (50 or so) it has a lag when you try to open up the tab to click on one.
Apps are launching plenty fast. System Preferences does seem to have a slight lag but I think that's mostly been the case for a long time.
It seems all is good. ;)

I don't know about 10.3.7 being any faster. That may be fantasy.
I was surprised to see much change in the STREAMS numbers (Copy, Scale, Add, Triadd) in the Xbench.
Those are pretty much self contained within the benchmark program, and don't call any system libraries or routines (except to fetch the start and end times).
If there's a change here (running the same version of Xbench, of course), one should suspect
Random events (clock granularity, unrelated interrupts or system processes stealing time, background I/O,...)
Changes in memory management to improve cache behaviour (like page coloring) - possible in a big update like 10.4, unlikely in a minor update
It would be more interesting to do 10 to 20 runs, and report the mean, min, max and standard deviation.
A single run is far too susceptible to random variability to be useful for subtle comparisons.

Or howabout 10.3.10, 10.3.11, 10.3.12, 10.3.13......they won't ever run out of room with this way of numbering the updates. Besides, I would rather have a 10.4.2 when 10.5 comes out rather then a 10.4.110....ie I want the thing to be as stable as Panther has been and if possible more stable. Take your time Apple. Panther is still damn good.

I installed the 10.3.7 update in my dual 2 Ghz G5
Summary : Everything seems noticably faster, snappier.
Initially : After the upgrade, I hot-restarted and got a beachball for a lot
longer than usual and noted that the usual icons along the top of the finder scrawled individually from right to left across the screen and then the OS loaded - this only happened once.
Mail toook a long time to start up.
I then repaired permissions without anything notable appearing in the list.
I then ran Onyx, cleared out the caches, ran all the scripts etc and shut down the G5.
After a cold restart it booted in about 30 seconds, everything ran a lot faster - including Mail which now seems to open in a second or two. Safari is noticably faster.
Curiously, my mouse scrolls much faster in Firefox than in Safari.
None of my 3rd. party apps have been affected.
The only casualty was XBench which crashed half way through the test (latest version). On a second run it showed a 200 score against a 212 score in 10.3.4 but the whole OS "seems" faster in 10.3.7
Obviously some people installing 10.3.7 have not repaired permissions and "cold started" their Macs after the upgrade or followed the usual maintenance procedures. Macs are like pretty ladies - they need a little attention.
I seem to have a faster G5 tonight than I had this morning.
I'm happy.

 The update killed my help system. Everytime I try to launch help it crashes. What's this Windows?
Delete the help preference files and caches. It worked for me when Mac OS Help was messed up.
Delete this folder:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.helpui/
Delete these files:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.help.plist
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.helpviewer.plist

Works fine on my iBook G3, I was a bit worried after 10.3.6 killed my computer, but this one worked fine.

Is ANYone else experiencing very slow boot-ups with 10.3.7?
It's literally something like 5 minutes to boot up.
I'm on a Dual 1.42 G4.
Thanks.
I have the same machine and startup in 10.3.7 is the same as I had in 10.3.6 which is about 40-45secs to finder screen with icons all loaded.
I find that using a program like Yasu (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/21674) greatly improves boot and app load times.
I've performed all the fixes Yasu does one by one manually and found that for some reason prebinding seems to be the one thing that speeds up system load time the most. I'm not sure why as I didn't think prebinding had much to do with system startup.
Starting with 10.3.6 I began running Yasu before and after every update. So far it seems to make a big difference.

10.3.7 has not fixed the MDD audio issue. Has anyone else noticed the audio problem? Going back to the 10.3.5 Apple02Audio.kext fix...
I've never noticed the audio issue on either of my MDD Powermacs though that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. So far nothing new with 10.3.7.

I can no longer print wirelessly using airport express.
Any Suggestions?

Try unplugging and plugging your printer back in. I've had this issue recently myself but no related to 10.3.7.

Well, I messed up, the installation was interrupted while it was optimizing the hd, so I restarted the installation. Now, all my pics are gone and the pictures folder can’t be accessed. Can I still get back my pics or am I screwed?
I also repaired the disk permissions. Any thoughts?
Have you tried FSCK in Single User Mode? Also try running Yasu (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/21674). It clears caches, performs chron tasks, repairs permissions, and updates prebinding. Very nice little GUI for those unix tasks.

Installed on 15" Al 1.25GHz PB with no problems. Runs fine.
Before any update I go through the following checklist:
1. Log out and log back in. (I have filevault turned on so this clears up unused disk space as well as restarting the finder.
2. Perform normal backups.
3. Repair disk permissions. (This time it found nothing to repair.)
4. Restart
5. Install the update.
I suspect that some problems people see are due to the OS being in an unexpected configuration when the update runs.

As far as I'm concerned 10.3.7 is the best update ever because World of Warcraft now runs 10fps faster pretty much all the time. Night Elf Priests rock!

I am getting a Retail Radeon 9800(Mac Edition) for my Sawtooth and I was wondering if should wait to apply this update? I heard that the software update now checks your hardware configuration and gives you only what you can use.(I have a Rage Pro right now)
I installed at 9800 Pro retail edition last night just before the update. I can't imagine what you're saying is true, or else any standard hardware upgrade would fail as the necessary drivers would be missing. I wouldn't worry about upgrading to 10.3.7 before installing the card, unless you want to benchmark it before and after to see the difference the driver upgrades in 10.3.7 made.
The card rocks, by the way. It's nice to play UT2004 at 1680x1050 with the settings maxed!

A friendly reminder about Apple's warnings:
* If you have a third-party FireWire hard drive connected, turn it off and disconnect it before installing this update. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is complete and you've restarted.
I didnt see this before I updated, but somehow my external drive survived. WHEW! :o

One thing I don't like, as this goes for another machine too, if you have alot of bookmarks (50 or so) it has a lag when you try to open up the tab to click on one.
I assume you mean click the pop-up menu? Not sure exactly what you mean.
But, one thing that slows down bookmark-related actions are the favicons. For example, navigating the bookmarks menu. The first time you click it to open it, there is a delay while the favicons are loaded. You can hear your drive thrash on 'em. The second click is much faster though as everything in in memory already.

Still can't print the last dozen .pdfs I've downloaded from various sources to my HP 7960. When is Apple going to finally make printing robust in OS X? I'm getting a bit fed up.
We had to replace a ROM in one of our HP printers to get it to work with OSX and Acrobat/pdfs.

I think this was mentioned ealier, but 10.3.7 breaks PCI Extreme 2.0 (which allows Quartz Extreme to run across the PCI bus in Yikes! G4's and Blue & White or Beige G3's).
I'm not too happy about it. I guess I'll be rolling back to 10.3.6 on the B&W.

god there are so many dogs heated up and needing some on these boards. i scanned 98% of the posts in this stupid thread trying to figure out why i shouldnt install the update because the thread had so many negative points againts it.

Could be a hardware problem.
I was planning on getting ati 9800 special edition of 256mb ram, i noticed that all macs (actually the G5 ones) using that card have a smooth and very high fps on the GUI.
Others default ATI 9600 that come shipped with the macs, are not working as good and in many cases you get really choppy "genie effect" and laggy expose.
I thought it would have been fixed in 3.7, but I guess not...
I guess a new card would do it.

A friendly reminder about Apple's warnings:
Thank you Doctor Q. I didn't disconnect my OWC Firewire Elite with 10.3.6 or any prior upgrades. But I think that I will heed your advice. Usually when one is warned that is just the time that problems occur.
Have noted about others saying that the boot-up after the update is slow. It should be very interesting with a Dual 450 G4.

This update didn't do anything for iSync and my Nokia 6620. Although i didn't expect it to. I am hoping tha they get this working in Tiger.
Thanks for that Stewie.
Has anyone running ProTools LE updated and then tried PT yet? Thats all thats stopping me, this seems to be a very positive update.

I seem to have narrowed down the cause of excessively long login times. For those with complaints.
I was a good boy and repaired permissions and prebinding before and after along with the other stuff "Onyx" does.
I have been suffering extremely long login times and all of my macs, a 500mhz cube, 667 TiBook, and 2x2GHz G5. The desktop would appear but the menu bar would not fully load for the better part of a minute while the beachball spins.
I have a local airport (extreme) network. When I turned airport off in the menu bar and then restarted/logged out and then back in there was no delay whatsoever. I have the latest airport software installed on all computers and the basestation.
Another thing to note is that the cube is connected to the basestation thru a wired hub not wirelessly and experiences the same slow login.
There has been some discussion on 10.3.7 and DNS issues on the apple.com/support discussion forums.
It would be nice if someone could come up with a fix for this.
I believe that I have followed due diligence when upgrading.
Hope this helps someone

10.3.7 did not fix the major Diablo slowdown. Still have to run in software mode instead of OpenGL mode.....sigh
I guess maybe on older machines this is still a problem, but it DID address the problem. On my DP 2.5ghz, 10.3.6 w/ Diablo II was horrific. Major slow down, and drops into the 5-10fps range in battles.
With 10.3.7, FPS are back up to 40-60fps in heavy battles and 100fps+ in cities. Not the 100fps+ I was getting before in battles, for more than playable.

Login times:
My login times turned almost to instant when I changed my Airport TCP/IP settings to DHCP with manual address from DHCP. For some reason the airport was causing a major hang up on log in even on wired connections.
(this is a further development from my previous post)

The tests I've seen show that the overall system does not see any speed benefits with this hack. In fact video frame rates suffered. I wouldn't implement it QE on unsupported hardware.
Just peruse this link and you'll see what I mean.

While maybe there are not any true speed improvements, the UI benefits greatly from the QE over PCI hack. The only time you may notice it as a detrement is if you're gaming. The proof is actually in using it yourself. Choppy Expose, smooth Expose. Night and day.
So, I really don't care about the actual framerates, the perceived smoothness is all that matters on that machine.
