Hi,

I was talking to a friend in the UK and we were discussing the new BBC show SHERLOCK which he bought from iTunes.

This lead to him expressing disappointment that the show, although in HD, only has stereo for its audio and no surround sound option (the DVD and BluRay versions have 5.1). And he says it is like this on all TV Shows in the UK Store that he has bought.

He is wondering if the reason for this is because he bought them through his computer instead of Apple TV?

I told him that I didn't think so, because I purchased STAR WARS CLONE WARS in HD on my Mac - in the US Store - and it has 5.1 audio (fantastic 5.1 in fact). However, I do have some shows which have surround sound but don't seem to use the subwoofer (although my subwoofer is set up to switch off when not in use but it stays on during these other shows?!?

I had taken it for granted that all HD TV Shows had a surround sound option, but I just checked and some shows I own only have stereo.

I had intended to buy the fifth season of STARGATE ATLANTIS in HD, but I already own the first episode of the season in HD and it is stereo only - lucky I checked or I'd have been very disappointed (I need 5.1 on that )

Is there any way to check the audio options on iTunes TV Shows before purchase?

Regards.

Anyone know how to do this? This is like false advertising (or no advertising). Apple should be required to list the video and audio formats, just like DVDs and BDs have to.

not really false advertising, HD is about the video, not the audio.

and not sure that blurays and dvds HAVE to list them, but they do.

and audio format is there, it's got the dolby digital logo if it's in 5.1, it's not there if it doesn't.

looking at sherlock now, it's got the logo, not about to pay $7 to check it out, since i already have the series.
