They're being used for language classes--a very valid use, as opposed to a gimmick as some colleges seem to be using to attract students.

The AppleX article linked to frets over the possibility of students at public schools being required to buy iPods out-of-pocket in order to take classes  Fear not, that's not what this is about. This is a private school that students PAY to go to, which made a choice its language students can apparently afford. And the school rents out iPods if you don't want to buy one.

my guess is that 99% of the girls that go to that school already have an iPod.

K-12, 670 students... so, under 60 8th graders? I don't think this is going to be forcing major school districts into anything....
