Nano 6th gen does not play and charge

I have a new Nano that I just bought over the weekend. Before I take it back, I want to make sure it's a defect on the Nano (as opposed to it's supposed to work that way).

My Nano will not charge while it's playing. I've tried a charge cable and a speaker dock. It will charge when I stop the music.

huh... how is this possible...
Mine doesn't do that. Get it replaced. It's under 30 days anyway just to be sure.
