Hi all, does anyone know of kiosk apps for the iPad?

I have a client that uses iPads in his shop; at the moment they run a slideshow of his products. He would like to run a kiosk app that runs a slideshow until the customer touches the iPad, then they go to a menu system where they can drill down into more detail on his product range and manufacturing process. Once they have finished browsing his offerings, the iPad will automatically go back into slideshow mode.

I've done some googling but to no avail. Has anyone seen any kiosk apps like this?

Thanks
bm

My suggestion would be to build a web site that does what your client wants. This is an easy task to contract out and will likely produce assets that are useful outside of the kiosk. The client may already have most of what's needed on an existing site. Then it's a trivial task for an iOS developer to create an app that does nothing but load this web site full screen.

Does your client physically prevent access to the home button?

Edit: After I answered this I thought, "I should write this app and sell it." But, of course, it's already for sale.

There are a handful of iPad Kiosks Apps, we list many on our site at http://www.ipadenclosures.com and here are a few that work well:

My Kiosk
Kiosk Pro
Kiosk Pro Lite
LocPad
PadLock
LoungePad
Ecrisper
wKiosk

...and a new one every month. None are perfect, none are too expensive, I would give them all a try. Kiosk Pro Lite is the best fee sample.

If your looking to create your own forms (lead capture, survey, etc.) and use your iPad as a Kiosk without coverage take a look at iForm Kiosk by Zerion Software - http://www.iformbuilder.com.

iForm Kiosk now available on the App Store (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/iform-kiosk/id431609835?mt=8)

This sounds like you could setup as a custom web app then use a kiosk app which would lock down that webpage. If it can't be online then you would want to setup an app. What your talking about is an attract screen then a menu. This could then be mounted up in a mount like ours: http://ipadkioskmount.com

I'm sorry but running a website on a tablet will never give a great user experience. For example:

1) You will always feel a delay or lag as the website must communicate with a server at every step of the way
2) You will be dependent on data connectivity. No data connection, no kiosk. This is especially a problem at large events, conferences and trade shows where everyone is competing for bandwidth
3) You will always get the standard Apple keyboard for data input. This keyboard isn't necessarily intuitive to non Apple

These are just a few reasons. For 10 reasons why app-based surveys are better than web-based surveys on the iPad, check out this artice: http://www.quicktapsurvey.com/qts/2011/06/07/quicktapsurvey-vs-web-based-surveys/

With the QuickTapSurvey (http://www.quicktapsurvey.com) iPad app and software, you'll have an awesome kiosk with simple and easy to use data collection. You can even embed a web page into a question if you really wanted to!

I am looking for something a little different than all of these suggestions - Rather than display web pages what we would like is to have the iPad just display a few Apps (that we can control access to) for a waiting room. So far, what I have seen in the app store are apps that allow access to websites (both on line and in memory).

The plan is to buy a dozen or so games and load them on the iPads so that the kids can only access those apps (we will be 'rotating' them periodically to stay 'current'). WiFi will be disabled so parents don't have to worry as much about the kids going places they should not be, they will only be able to play the games that have been loaded/selected.

Can anybody suggest something like that? I appreciate the help.

Thanks.

Check Yooba's platform for management of your iPad kiosk apps (http://www.yooba.com). Full creative freedom for design and tools for easy and fast updates without any coding. The output is a native app stored locally on the device.

Great threat indeed.

If you are looking for a mobile application for iPad that can be used with your kiosk, I'll recommend http://www.data-field.com which can be used for customer feedback (http://www.data-field.com/solutions/customer-feedback/), mobile registration (http://www.data-field.com/fr/solutions/mobile-registration-forms/) or check out process on iPad..

Also, you can find very useful tips on installing a kiosk inside a shop or facility (http://www.data-field.com/blog/how-to-install-an-ipad-kiosk-successfully/) on the blog.

Hope that helps !:D:D:D:apple::apple::apple:
