I was worried that having 10,000 names would make there be hardly any space for content on the ad, but the way they did it, using two full pages and having the Firefox logo "on top of" the names looks really good.
I think I'm gonna order the poster version (http://www.mozillastore.com/products/stuff/nytimesfirefox/) of the ad. Just 7 bucks at the Mozilla store.
And my name's in the ad, by the way ;)

Firefox, congrats, keep hacking away at IE.
and to Apple . . .
1. Keep hacking away at Creative and Rio with iPods and keep hacking at wmp with iTunes, maybe a halo effect will follow.
2. Might want to invest some more in your Safari team, you have some serious competition brewing with Firefox. They have the RSS feeds already.

And licence out FairPlay so that I don't have to buy a WMA player to use purchased songs  (or release iTunes in NZ)

All of the Firefox hype is really getting old quickly. "Look, we're a better browser!" Yeah, if all you've ever used is IE. It's pretty good, but "take back the internet"? I did that with Safari long ago, thank you very much.

i too took back the internet with Safari, but Safari isnt available on Windows, so thats where FireFox steps in to allow PC users from being forced to use IE which is the reason why the web is horrible

with the about:config cracks to allow pipelining firefox runs alot faster for most things than Safari.
for me anyway.
plus I don't like Safari's brushed metal look.

Did anyone get the promised email about this? I'd like to buy the paper, and if I didn't happen to check the forums here today I'd be SOL. Guess they want another $7 out of me, eh?

about:config is a great feature. It basically gives you access to every single preference, including those that don't (yet?) have settings in the preferences dialog.
The code-base (going back to Netscape Communicator) has always had undocumented preferences. Sometimes for features on their way out, sometimes for new features that aren't fully tested/developed, and sometimes when nobody can figure out a good UI mechanism for configuring them. You used to have to manually edit your prefs.js (or preferences.js) configuration file to do this. Thanks to about:config, you can make these changes safely and easily, and without quitting the browser.
BTW, a great way to make Firefox run faster is to download an optimized build (http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20041112060326220) for use with the G4 (http://homepage.mac.com/krmathis/) or G5 (http://www.beatnikpad.com/archives/2004/11/06/firefoxG5) processor instead of the more generic G3-compatible build released by the Mozilla prople. I've been using Kai Rune's G4-optimized build for a few weeks now and it's much faster than the official release.

Hope this really achieves a snowball effect in a very big way.

It may run well on a PC, but on my Dual 2 ghz G5 it crashes within two minutes, every time I run it. I'll stick with Safari.

Do you have the G5 optimized version here (http://www.beatnikpad.com/archives/2004/11/06/firefoxG5)? Try it out.
