Has anyone experienced this before?
My WD firewire 800 drive has stopped working, i can hear it spinning when I plug it in but the light doesnt come on and my computer doesn't recognize it. I've tried both the firewire and usb connections.

sounds like the harddrive controller given up , if you openthe case there is a small green board in front of the harddrive , your harddrive itself might still be alright , just get a new enclosure and test it out , you can always buy a new harddrive if the old one would be broken too , but i would test it first

Anyway you can remove the hdd and install it in another enclosure or inside your computer?

I second this. I would be sure to test the hard drive out if possible. If it works get a new enclosure from Amazon or somewhere and your on your way. Good luck. :)
