Is it necessary to clear cache and cookies for iOS?

You don't need to clear the cache or cookies on any device unless you are having various types of problems. Are you having a problem?
 
Necessary - no.
Do I clear mine occasionally? - yes.

I'm sure they don't take up much space on the iPad but I just like to clear unused stuff every so often.

Ok, I'm having no problems, but I read that it is important to clear cache/cookies/history after using the browser for a while, which is the reason I'm asking.
