NEED HELP - Cannot sync calendars "because the calendars are in use by the iphone"

My calendar won't sync with either MobilMe or by direct sync with iTunes.

I get this error
Cannot sync calendars "because the calendars are in use by the iphone"

Calendar is not running in the background.

Using an iPhone 4 running 4.01
