So I've been interested in buying a Macbook or MBP for a while now; our laptop recently died so I need to buy a new one relatively soon. I've been lurking on the forums, trying to soak up as much info as I can. So far, I've been most interested in the Macbook or MBP (the 13 incher, lower end).

A friend of my mother-in-law is selling a 2008 Macbook for $675. I'm a little uneasy about buying a used laptop, but it is tempting. The laptop would be used primarily for work/school stuff, general internet use, some photo stuff (nothing major). We're not huge gamers or anything.

So would buying this be a terrible idea? Anything I should be on the lookout for or ask about?

Here are the specs:

Not worth it IMO. I entered the serial to Apple's site and it showed it's late 2006 MacBook. You can get late 2009 MacBook for 759$ from refurb store. Comes with full warranty and is faster than what you listed

Definetely not worth that price. If you wanting something cheap though offer them $400 ish for it and you'll have a decent machine on the cheap. Or just wait around refurbs come through often and are at a good price plus warranty.

Which country are you in? There are normally refurbs available.

See the link in my post above (http://www.refurb.me/). MacBook was available 2 days ago but there will likely be more refurbs sooner than later. Refurb.me has various notifications available so you will be notified when the model you're looking for is back in stock
