Whats the best service to go through for web hosting? I want to buy some web space to build a site on. You pay for it yearly right? Any help would be greatly appreciated

www.asmallorange.com - their online orders are disabled at the moment, but if you email them they will still set you up.

I've used a few other hosting companies, and had many problems. My main contention in the past has been support, calling up and being put on hold for what seems like an eternity. With ASO, it's much easier, just post something on their forums (any time of day) and someone always has an answer for you right away. Generally it's an ASO employee, but you also get good insight from other customers.
All in all I've been very satisfied as an ASO customer.

http://www.surpasshosting.com/
2 GB Storage, 30 GB download and everything else is unmetered (subdomains, email addresses, mysql Db, etc...)
$5/month or $48/yearly
Very very happy so far. Account setup was rocket fast and they also have a similar support community at http://www.surmunity.com
