I'm hoping this can be answered with a simple "yup" so here it goes.

I have an 8-core 2008 Mac Pro tower. I need to throw a blu-ray burner in it.

The tower only has IDE interface cables for the two optical drive bays.

Will these play nicely together?

Or am I better off going external?

That's it. Thanks in advance, peace!

Maybe not what you wanted to hear, but it's a simple "Nope". The adapter you've linked is designed to allow an IDE drive to attach to SATA, not the other way around.

You'll need to either find a native IDE burner (which a quick Google finds pretty much nonexistent), add an internal SATA card or go external.

Wouldn't something like this work?

Actually, I believe you can use the 2 extra SATA ports underneath the optical drive bay (behind the fan assembly) for a SATA Blu-Ray burner. These 2 ports are in addition to those used for the 4 hard drive bays.

But the ports won't work under Windows I believe. So if you're OS X only, it should work.

But don't quote me on all that, as I haven't done it myself. Perhaps someone else could chime in to confirm.

Thanks for the shout back, we've already used them. Curses! (But that could potentially help someone else)
