And since I'm without waiting morals, have acquired it.
It's bloody awesome, a welcome return to form. Almost good enough to make me forget about their last 2 (or is it three?) albums which sucked. Y'know, everything since 'Dig your own hole' in uh, 97?
It has an overall sound quite close to the aforementioned album, familiarity which sometimes annoys - the penultimate track, 'Marvo Ging' is too reminiscent of 'The private psychedelic reel' for comfort. The first single release, 'Galvanise' is very well made, funky stuff - although itself is very close to a track [whose name escapes me] from the Prodigy comeback album, 'Always outnumbered, never outgunned'. This is a trend which continues throughout the album, most obviously in the bassline from 'Believe'. It's no excuse that they're both artists whose peak was around '96 - '97, they should probably have worked harder to bring back a little more originality. That said, there are no overtly weak tracks, and the artists chosen to deliver vocals are competent. Lyrically? - well... they're a dance band, aren't they? ;)
There is certainly room for improvement... perhaps dust off (no pun intended) Noel Gallagher to give one of his better vocal performances. The grammatically-incorrect 'How does it feeeeel liiike' really p**ed me off...
So basically, it's a grass roots album, I believe. Less experimental than it could have been, and much the better for it. I'll be buying this on January 25th, from iTunes if the CD is DRM'ed...
