View Full Version : Is this RAM compatible for a 2010 12-core Max Pro?

Im looking to get a new Mac Pro (12-core 2,66) with ideally 48GB RAM.

My dealer who I will be buying the Mac from has quoted me about €2060+tax for the RAM. Apple prices (even if they offered 48GB) are mental.

I can get 48GB of this RAM:

http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/configurator_new/partsinfo.asp?root=us&LinkBack=http://www.valueram.com&ktcpartno=KVR1333D3D4R9SK2/16G&id=1

for about €1140+tax.

An alternative would be this RAM:

http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/configurator_new/PartsInfo.asp?root=us&LinkBack=http://www.valueram.com&ktcpartno=KVR1333D3D4R9SK2/16GI

...which is apparently "Intel verified" for about €1200+tax.

So the questions are...

Is it compatible?
Is it compatible but not very good?
Any other advice?

Cheers lads & lasses!

Mac Pros have custom thermal heat sensor so I'm not sure will that work. Why don't you contact Kingston and ask?

Custom? Don't they just have to be Intel thermal sensors? Presumably the second link posted by OP would be right since it's Intel Compat.

But yes, just ask Kingston yourself - drop them an email and they'll respond.

Not sure about the heat sensor, I just hear folks talking about it :p But anyway, the only way to make sure it works is to contact Kingston

Well, I've mailed Kingston & will report back when (or if) they respond.

Thanks for the input so far!
