I recently had to move back home with my mother to help her after some minor surgery, which has required me to start using my iBook G4's internal dialup modem again. (Normally I use Airport Extreme for my internet connection.) Although my iBook's internal modem always connects with my ISP flawlessly, it will randomly disconnect whenever it wants to. Sometimes this will be after a few minutes, sometimes I can be online for hours with no problems. It is driving me crazy. I finally found the modem log and am copying it below. As you can see, it notes "Terminating on Signal 15" after about 10-minutes and then hangs up. The error message popup is always the same "The other side has unexpectedly hung up." My ISP has looked into this, and it is in fact my modem that is hanging up. They have no other customers reporting this problem.

What is a "Signal 15"??? Is this a hardware problem? Do I need a new modem? Can I reconfigure something in a preference file to make it more tolerant of this error?

Any ideas at all??? Thanks!

It sounds like your computer is telling the modem to disconnect. Is it timed to disconnect after a period of time? I can only think of resetting the nv-ram and pram. Other than that we might need to get a veteran in here.
