The only cost you should have is the cost of an external blu-ray drive and you can probably find a decent BD-ROM drive for about $50-$75. I rip and encode my blu-ray disks with a 2.0 gHz C2D Mac Mini--never will be confused with a workhorse--but it does the job just fine. My 720p encodes generally take 8-10 hrs so I'll rip a disk using MakeMKV (takes 45 min to an hours) and then set up the encode to run in HB overnight. Do one a day and yeah, it'll take almost 3 months but will definitely be a lot cheaper than buying them all through iTunes (avg $15 per movie = $1200).

ill also need at least a 1 or 2 tb drive. my only gripe with doing it is the time it takes. If i can find a bd-rom drive for prices you stated ill go for it.
