iPod battery

I've been using my iPod mini since I received this Christmas and I truly enjoy it. I've heard all the talk about it's battery and I have a quick question.

Is it normal for the battery meter to go down a little segment after only listening to a few songs on medium volume? Yesterday morning I starting listening to it after being fully charged the night before and I was a little paranoid about the battery meter already going down after a couple songs.

Is this normal, or am I just paranoid?
 
My iPod also looses one segment almost directly after I use it. On the other hand, when there aren't any segments left in the status indicator, it still manages to play for some more hours. Guess this is normal and the status symbol truly is an indicator - not a meter. So I don't believe you've got to worry
 
Ah, okay. I'm just such a slave to meters and figures. I'll relax now.

Also, is it a bad thing to keep the iPod (or any other rechargeable appliance) plugged in after it's already fully charged (and not in use)?
