Do any of you guys know if NBA League Pass will be offered on iPad this year? NBA.com doesn't have any info up and I don't know if they have offered it in the past.

Thanks for any insight you guys might have.

They had a free iPad app last year called NBA Game Time Courtside and it is still up, but it didn't offer audio or video feeds.

They had a paid iphone app called "NBA Game Time 2009-2010" that offered live audio feeds. It is still up and free now.

They also had team "Game Time" apps for less that offered live audio for just that team.

I'm guessing they will come out with a paid "NBA Game Time 2010-2011" for both the iPhone and iPad that will do live audio. Not sure if they will do a team/by/team version again. Would actually make more sense to offer one app for less or even free and then do in-app purchases for specific teams feeds or all teams.

Look them up on appshopper.com to get when the came out..

They had an iPhone app that carried live all the regular games except those in your local city, and nationally televised games (in other words it was subject to the NBA blackout rules.) In addition you could watch games on demand for a day or two afterwards. I believe I paid $49.99--the price went down as the season progressed. When the iPad came out, the IPhone app did not work on it. My guess is the app is coming for both devices any time now.

That link just sent me to the main page where I can buy the app for my phone or broadband...
Has anyone tried to download this app for the iphone and use it on your ipad? Does it work this season? If so, how's the quality? I'm itching to press the button, but I want to make sure it works, cuz I'm certainly not planning on watching the games on my phone unless I'm no where near wifi and my ipad/computer.

I bought League Pass and watched several games on my ipad last night. Picture quality is decent, but obviously not as good as a universal app would be. Otherwise the app is great. Hopefully they will have a universal app soon.

My main complaint is that the League Pass is device specific. I tried to watch on iphone and it appeared that i would get billed $45 again.

Ah, thanks for the heads up! So you purchased it on your iPad and tried to transfer it to you iPhone as well?

That's sad that they won't allow it on both. Kinda kills hope for a universal app. I'm scared that if I buy it on my ipad, they'll release an iPad specific version later in the season. Ah what to do...

How does it compare to streaming it on a computer?

I've heard a lot about the iphone app crashing on the ipad app and making you have to buy a separate app for the ipad... though I'm pretty sure this is not working as intended.

The NBA has this "Three Point Play" deal that I just googled. It basically gives you everything - TV, broadband, mobile... and theres a quote in the article saying they'll be coming out with an iPad specific app within the next month or so.

For Optimum, its about $209 for all of that so I think I'll buy it. Check your local service provider if you're interested.

I used iphone app to watch on ipad. Crashes occasionally but overall decent picture. Good way to get league pass for $45.

New NBA courtside 2011 update to last years ipad app is out. Looks good. Haven't tried it yet with any games. Unfortunately video highlights aren't loading for me, just a spinning wheel. Able to log on with my League Pass account. We'll see if the video works tonight.

Just wondering if anyone with a league pass subscription had a chance to try out the live feeds. I've had good experience with the iPhone app and was hoping for an even better experience with the iPad.

Live feed worked well. Video portion is iphone sized superimposed onto a graphic of a basketball court. On a local network quality was good. Wish the video was the entire iPad but..... Oh well. At least it's included in the league pass without the need to buy the mobile service.

Thanks for the update. That's disappointing. Doesn't really justify an upgrade from the mobile plan. Waiting for potential to meet reality is frustrating sometimes. At least my celtics are rolling.

My download of the app on the iPad keeps crashing. When I try to go through the website I get as far as the blank dark screen just before the videos usually appear but that's as far as I get.

Really was a good app IMO.

I'm sure they will launch a new one when the season starts. At least that's what they have previously done - make an app each season. Of course they will probably still charge money for it, making them a bunch of cold morons

I still have the Game Time app on my iPad but you just get a message that the season's finished when you open it. I'm sure the new app will be ready before Christmas Day. I may be imagining it but I'm pretty sure the app is free but you need a league pass subscription to use it.

Alright, sure hope you're right. I just have this memory of paying $12 or so for it, but I may be wrong

Looks like the app is up now. 119 to follow a team.

I'll wait til the playoff to buy I think, when it's a bit less. Also I find regular season a bit dull as it doesn't seem to matter as much IMO.

So it's $99/season, but doesn't include the playoffs?

No I believe you pay once and it includes everything.

However, when you get to the playoffs and if you havent subscribed then you can do so for a cheaper fee. That's what I did last season.

I don't think this is right since all of the playoff games will be nationally televised and therefor subject to the normal blackout rules.

For those unfamiliar, League Pass does not include games that are nationally televised on channels such as TNT and ESPN. They want you to get your normal cable package for those. Also games on the regular networks aren't available, but even if you don't have a cable package, you can get the networks over the air in HD for free with a simple antenna (and TV tuner if you aren't using a digital-ready TV).

I didn't pay. I am watching the free preview of NBA League Pass, it works on the NBA Gametime app for iPhone as well as double pixel on the iPad. For the playoffs all the games are on national TV so League Pass wouldn't work for it anyway.

I can confirm that the only way to get League Pass on the iPad is with the LP Broadband account. There is no way to purchase it on the iPad as it requires you to log in. If you bought LP on your iPhone, that's the only place it will work. Even AirPlay has been disabled.

I bought on my IPad, and it seems to work there...(I dont get the free preview screen) But it does not translate over to my IPhone....which is fine as I will just watch on my IPad as long as it works.

I signed up for the free league pass trial and can watch games on both my iPad and my iPhone and can stream the games from my iPad to Apple TV.

I'm based in the United Kingdom and there are no blackout restrictions here - every single game is shown on it.

The price they are quoting for a season sign up (International League Pass anyway) includes playoffs and NBA finals.

I'm still hoping for an Apple TV update to include NBA league pass in Europe.

TallManNY
Jan 3, 2012, 11:23 AM
Makes sense that there would be no blackout in Europe since you don't have option of subscribing to your local cable provider and catching local and national games that way.

If the quality and reliability improves I will subscribe. I'd prefer to watch some of my local teams (Knicks and Nets (though Nets are going to be really bad this year)), but if I can't I'm certainly not unhappy watching the actually good teams in the league.

I hooked up my NBA courtside app to league pass broadband and everything says its good, but every time I try to watch a game, it says "video not available".
This is for non-blacked out games too.
Anyone experiencing this? Perhaps I'm doing something wrong.

This was happening to me as well. Try logging out of the courtside app and then logging back in. I already had an account over at nba.com from last year, so what I had to do was actually activate the free preview from there. Logged out of the app and logged back in and it worked.

I'm having the same problem, and can only get "video not available" when trying to watch League Pass on my Ipad.

How'd you "register" your account? I signed up for League Pass directly (not through cable/internet company). I have a username and password (again, it says in Courtside that I have logged on successfully).

Any recommendations?

I recently purchased the mobile version for my ipad. It looks like all of the games played locally are blacked out. In addition, it says that my username and password credentials don't match even though I went to nba.com/leaguepass at their request to reset them. I looked all over their website for a support or contact link. Go figure, none exist.:(

This site has NBA League Pass info, and it says you can watch on any device. I think the app is the still the courtside app, but you could call these guys and find out. I always get my DirecTV from DirectSatTv. They're an authorized dealer, but they have better packages for some reason.
