what does it mean when it takes 24 hours to reinstall the os?

I wanted to do a clean reinstall, thinking it would help my slowing computer.
Instead, the reinstall took literally 24 hours!
And now my imac is slower than ever!?!

Can anybody tell me what's happening?

My guess is the hard drive is dying.

Broken HDD?

Maybe use Disk Utility to verify the disk and see what it says there.
Guide on how to use Disk Utility from the restore / installation DVD.



There is also the Apple Hardware Test.

i ran both tests... they say everything is fine... weird, huh?

This can also happen if your installation media is scratched up.

Either the HD is going bad or there is something wrong with your SuperDrive or install disc
