Is there an API (or a config way? ) to setup a hook into iTunes on iPad or iPhone ... i'd like to have daemon running and communicating with iTunes and getting the artis and song currently being played by iTunes? TMIA

I don't think so, as apple ,in general wont allow the user credentials to be accessed any way ...
