A text message donate facility was setup in various European countries, but only now is there one for English mobile users.
UK mobile phone users can donate £1.50 to the DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee) Appeal by texting DONATE to 83321
http://www.bluepeter.redcross.org.uk/tsappeal/appeal.asp
This is in addition to the online donation facility:
https://www.donate.bt.com/bt_form_dec.htm
And don't forget wherever you donate, to state that your donation is marked as 'Gift Aid', which will allow the charity to claim back the tax and add extra 28p for every pound you donate, at no extra cost to you.
Every pound counts towards helping millions of desperate people.
Even 60p can save lives. It will buy 100 water purification tablets, which will provide a family with 100 litres of drinkable water, preventing disease.
75p: 10-litre jerry can for collecting and storing water
£5: full kitchen set for a displaced family
£8: Plastic sheeting to shelter one of the five million families who have lost their home
£15: clothes and shoes for a child who has lost everything
£35: enough food for a family for a week
£100: zinc sheeting and timber to rebuild two family homes
£400: a hand-held satellite phone for emergency teams to use
£1,750: a generator to provide electricity to an emergency camp
