Hello
After using the search I am still a bit confused about RAM upgrades.
I have bought a 2010 Mac Pro Quad Core (base model) and it came with 3x1 GB RAM. I then bought 2x2 GB RAM from Crucial.
Now I'm unsure how to proceed. I know that the 2x2 GB should be in the top riser (Riser A) in the first two slots. But what about my old 3x1 GB sticks? Where to put them to get best performance?
Many thanks in advance!

Well, Mac Pro has only four RAM slots so there should be only two empty slots after you install 2x2GB. Just put them in the empty slots

So the 3x1 go in the second riser (b)?

If you have the quad core Mac Pro, you only have four RAM slots thus you can only install 2x2GB + 2x1GB. Here (http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/macpro_2009_mem_m/) is a tutorial showing how to install them. I think the best way to do it is to have 2x2GB in upper slots and 2x1GB in bottom slots or vice versa.
I don't have a Mac Pro, maybe someone else can be more specific :o

I see, thanks for clarifying!

how did the RAM install go c:v? I'm interested in upgrading my quad core too
But i read:
"The Mac Pro Quad Core Xeon 3500 has 4 memory slots that can be populated in multiples of 3 or 4 - meaning you can add 3 or 4 modules configurable up to 32GB."
from:
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/8566D3ECC2GB/
So this means the best config is 3x2GB only? or 4x2GB only? etc

Can't believe how easy it was! I was completely confused as I was looking at the 2006 PDF manual for replacing RAM where they had 2 "drawers" on top of each others (2x4 banks). The 5.1 Quad 2.8 only has one drawer with 4 banks so it was really easy to pull out and replace/move the Ram. Everything works fine.
Thanks for all your help!
