text shatter in after effects

so i have a short clip that i made and it normaly takes about 4 min for it to render on my imac, and i added the shatter effect to one word near the end of my clip, after doing that it now takes 38 min for it to render, is this normal for this effect? and its slow rendering the whole thing not just the area with the shatter, and when i disable that effect it goes back down to 4 min.....

any thoughts?
