Hello,

A colleague has a disk stuck in his powerbook and has tried all the ways recommended on the apple site to eject it, but no luck.

Is there any way to manually eject it (like the old paper clip method!) that anyone knows of?

Thanks,
m

Unfortunantly there is no paper clip eject on the new Al books, you may have to take it to a dealer and have them take the drive apart.

Or try booting into Open firmware.
Hold down Command-Option-O-F when you start up
Then when you get a screen type eject cd and press return
if the cd comes out then type mac-boot to startup.
If it does not come out it is porbably a mechanical problem.

If you hold down your mouse/trackpad button while you're booting the machine up it will eject any CD/DVD (unless the drive is completely busted).

I would recommend this before going into open firmware.

Same thing happened after heavy use on myPB 17 1.33 superdrive - I ended up having to take it into an Apple Store to get it fixed - back in 2 days - love AppleCare

The mouse system doesn't always work, but if open firmware doesn't work, then the computer truly is busted. Open firmware is really fast and simple, and doesn't require any part of the bootup process, and a simple "eject cd" will get the CD out (if it wants to come out without force.) :)
