Hey guys, I am starting to think about my next computer. currently I am using: blue and white, G4 upgrade running at 600mhz, 896mb SDram, 60GB of HD space ect. In total i have spent around 300$ on total for everything, including monitor and the other essentials. I would be more then happy to take your suggestions, I am thinking in maybe the next 6-12 months maybe.

Thanks

Sounds like your set-up is ample for the basic email, internet, iTunes type of use - not screaming, but sufficient. What do you need to do on your computer that you cannot do efficiently on the current one? That info will go a long way towards anyone making a decent recommendation. Also, is portability an issue? Games?

Why don't you tell us how much you want to spend on your new Mac and what you'd like to do with it?

As powermac666 says: games, portability, these are all things to think of...

What is your general use of the computer .. it is pretty hard to recommend anything when we don't know if you are an R&R user or a Pro user ..

games are somewhat a part of it, but its also the idea that i am having to upgrade many things, and will keep having to till who knows when. I wouldn't mined some faster speed though, this would be mostly put into garage band, plug in instruments and have complicated loops. I like the idea of the "perfect computer", once that does not need to be upgraded in any field, so it would come with a good proc, over a 9000 graphics card, good LCD, big HD and a DL burner.

im thinking under 600US if I could sell this for over 200, as it is a G4 in perfect working condition.

I'm thinking you'd be extremely lucky to get all you want -- in this perfect computer -- for $600... think twice or three times that for what you want.

Maybe it's better to ask 'What can I get for $600'?

That sounds very good for what i want, decent graphics, maybe 1ghz G4, good HD.

Perhaps "iMac Mini" (or whatever headless eMac will be called) rumored for next week's announcement would fit the bill? Do you already have a monitor?

You shouldn't be upgrading then... the eMac doesn't offer that much more than what you currently have. Plus you'd have to upgrade it too. you're still lookin at over 600 bucks.
