Help on how to connect and record with bass guitar?

I have recently bought an iMac 3.06 and i want to record music on there with my bass. But i have no idea what to use, some people have said an DI Box or a PreAmp but I dont have a clue (as you may tell I am a newbiie) Any help would be great or any suggestions to anything better!

If you want good sound, I'd get something like a Firewire Solo.

If you just want to record your bass in Garageband then something like this (http://www.dv247.com/computer-hardware/behringer-guitar-link-ucg102-guitar-to-usb-interface--38128) will get you started for around £25. If you also need to record vocals you'll need to spend a bit more and get something similar to this (http://www.dv247.com/computer-hardware/m-audio-fast-track--68396).

Yes thank you this is the kinda thing i was looking for, just need something to record so i can make samples :)
