View Full Version : Waiting for iBook - please cheer me up!

I ordered a new iBook on Tuesday from the Apple store (over the phone). Today I got an email asking for id confirmation - I phoned to query this and apparently it's a random security check on all customers. So now I've emailed some dodgy scans to Apple (why are photo ids always so hideously embarassing?) and am hoping for a rapid response... because apparently it's holding up the shipment of my computer from Taiwan!
It's my birthday on Monday but it's starting to look like it'll take another year before my iBook arrives. Please cheer me up! :(

Hmmmmm
I've never heard of such a security system.
Emailing photo scans?
Anybody else?

Don't worry - iBook shipments go through pretty fast once they're approved. Did you get an educational discount, and that's why they wanted confirmation? If so, enjoy the fact that your added wait time was because you got a great price!
I know it seems like forever, but I bet you have it within a week. Enjoy!

The email said it was because I used a different shipping address to my billing address. It sounds dodgy... but I did phone to check (on the store number).

I think it's because of a discount. I would certainly hope that it was sent directly to Apple (who else would know of the order)?

Ah - well, that actually makes sense. Better to have a wee bit of a hassle than to make it easy for thiefs to get Macs with stolen credit cards. In any event, I still bet you have it by next Friday. I know that sounds like forever, but it'll make the arrival that much sweeter! Plus, of course, if Apple announces anything juicy at MacWorld next week, you can refuse delivery and order something else. ;)

Wise to call, and your sure it was the store number and not a number from the email?
I've never done it that way, so I wouldn't know the security,
but I'm with you, sounds a little fishy (deep south term = dodgy)

...at least you're getting a new Mac!
And remember, all good things come to those who wait. You've also now got some time to make sure the new home for your new machine is properly set up.
Also, you've got us to share the expectant joy of a new Mac-user!
And spring is only 10 weeks away or so...

It was definitely the UK store number 0800 0391010 so hopefully that's okay.
The iBook is to replace my strawberry pink iMac which is getting old and, like me, seems to have put on a few pounds! I'm quite excited about it so I hope it doesn't get too delayed. I guess Spring *is* approaching soon - maybe I'll go and do some pre-Spring cleaning...
Thanks for all the replies - even the scary ones!

You could be in the same boat I am in, still paying for a Quicksilver 2002 (about yaer and a half to go) with little chance of getting a new one when the payments are down.
But I feel lucky that I have what I have, and when a PC using family member/friend come over, they say that I have a really great machine and thinks its brand new. Funny how using windows everyday makes using a mac once seem like your using a computer that is light years ahead of the game, even one that is a couple years old. :)

I had to fax a copy of my student ID to apple to get my student developer discount. I've heard of people having to do it for other reasons too. When using a credit card, your supposed to ask to see an ID, or atleast they do in Washington state. I'd rather show it and have some scam artist get fooled later.

From my count a BTO iBook will take 3.5 business days from ordering it to setting it up in your house. :)
The only email you should get is one with a tracking number that happens on the 2nd business day if you BTO.
Only some BTO options, I believe BlueTooth take more than 3.5 days. :)
You should have it in no time, all the best and
Welcome to the Family. :)

Happy birthday! I hope your iBook gets there soon. Maybe you'll be lucky like me. Mine actually arrived three days earlier than what it said on FedEx.com :)

Thank you lovely people! :) Especially deefuzz for making me laugh and Ben for being reassuring. :)
And thanks for the early birthday wishes. I think I'll spend a few on wishing my iBook gets here quicker! (And, fingers crossed, wishing there are no problems with confirming my credit card payment. Maybe I'll scan a few more documents just in case... With hindsight perhaps my drivers licence would have been more useful than my passport as passports don't show your address! Oh dear...)
