I'm a new Imac G3 user had a PC for 6 years (don't know much about macs and mac related stuff), I found this Formac TVR, it lets me record LPs and tapes aswell as Video tape to my Imac,

I love the idea, is there an alternative or something better out there?

As long as your iMac has Firewire that is a fine product .. you can also look into one of the EyeTV products over at www.elgato.com ..
