Aside from being a terrific movie, this is an excellent soundtrack! It's a little old now, I suppose, but I just found it last week and I am in love! It's a lot of indie music, but all of it's really good, as it's nice to hear good stuff from bands I've never heard of.
One thing that really got me was listening to the Simon and Garfunkle track on this disc, and realizing how similar this modern, indie music sounds like a ~30 folk rock song... if you didn't know it was Simon and Garfunkle you could very easily think it was a much mroe recnt recording. :)
Anyways, check out the movie and the soundtrack.

Loved the movie, downloading the soundtrack from iTunes as I write! Thanks for the reminder!

You shan't be disappointed... my fav. track is New Slang by The Shins (the song that Nat. Portman has Zach Braff listen to at the doctors office) and my wife's fav. is Blue Eyes by The Cary Brothers, not sure where that is in the movie.
Anyways, I was posting again mainly to add a little trivia factoid. Apparantly Zach Braff (lead actor, writer, director) sent out a CD-R of the soundtrack he made for the movie with the script to all the studios as he was pitching the film. Only one song from his original picks didn't make it due to some licensing issues (another studio bought the Sound Track rights to that song for the OC St.
Rob
Cool. Any idea which song got left off? I'm listening now - the music is excellent!
Edit: but I knew it would be - I saw the movie. ;)

I think it was "Orange Sky" by Alexi Murdoch, which I will have to download seperately now... :D Not sure if the song made it into the movie or not... I would assume using a 30-sec clip of it IN the movie and putting it on the soundtrack would fall under seperate licenses?

Bastard. ;) You just cost me $20 tonight ($10 for the GS soundtrack, $10 more getting the Ladder 49 one, since I tumbled upon it when I looked for "Orange Sky"). And thank you!

Haha. That's the trouble with iTunes... to damn convienient to spend money. :P
Noticed your Ender's Game sig, if you check out slashdot.org they are running an article about a MMORPG that OSC has been hired to develop for. From the makers of Second Life: Tale in the Desert or whatever that one is called, so there's a good chance it will have a Mac client.

RobGreat. You're trying to bankrupt me by telling me about things I must buy! ;)
Thanks for the tip, though - I checked it out, and it does look cool. I hope it works out.

Loved the soundtrack when it came out, it was quite weird though as it was all music I already owned or was quite familiar with already. I was really happy to see that soundtrack reign in some really great artists. I suppose as a side note, if you really followed the movie in pre-production and during the series of trailers last winter you might have noticed some other music, not in the film that might be worth taking a listen to if you liked the soundtrack. 'Love Will Come Through', by Travis from 12 Memories was used heavily in the promos. The original version of 'Such Great Heights', by the Postal Service was used in trailers before the Iron and Wine remake was used in the film. Anyways, yeah, Garden State is a quality mix tape.

I saw it recently--it reminded me to look into buying some Zero 7, which I did. "In the Waiting Line" is my favorite on the album.
