View Full Version : Faster Ways to use NoteTaker HD?

Hey guys!

After a lot of research, I have decided to go with Note Taker HD as my note-taking app of choice, mostly because I am taking a lot of Math and Computer Programming classes, and I find the ability to write large but have it be on the paper small to be absolutely invaluable.

I am now looking for some tips on how to better use it, and I hope you can help:

1- Today, my math teacher emailed us a PDF of last year's test, for practice. I opened the email pdf, and then used 'Open with...' to open it with NoteTake HD. It imported it as a background instead, for me to write on. Now, I practiced a few times, and it is still quite a lengthy process to get it open and ready to be edited in one of my pages. Is there a way to just bring it in and start writing on it? For example, it was a 5 page test, and I had to manually open each page, set it to be able to be used as a background, then open my notebook for Math, new page, set the background, find the one I wanted, change which page is the background, then set, and finally I was set. That is just super long! Isn't there an easier way? I've already seen/used GoodReader, and while it's not bad, I'm not too pleased with it overall

2- Is there a way to better organize the notes? I haven't really dived into the 'tags' function, but maybe that's where I should be looking. Would that be the best way to organize notes from different classes? I'm looking to be able to preview each page, to see 'where was that page where I wrote ___' type of searching. Are tags the only way to do this? (Basically, I'm looking for a way to organize by notebook, if it's possible)

Thanks for any/all help.

p.s. I realize that I may be asking for features that are just not possible in NT HD, and if that's the case, then I suppose I will live with it as-is, because I find the actual note-taking to be perfect for me, after trying many others.

Sorry, no answers as I don't have the app yet, but your second question about tags intrigues me. It's one of those ideas that hadn't struck me when looking for note taking apps. I too, would want to be able to separate them by class and be able to preview the notes somehow for quick reference.

I don't know, this may be one area where the ol' pen and pad win right now. For efficiency, the iPad is great, but I think it's lacking in the organization department right now. Hopefully that will change soon.

I love NoteTaker HD, but he needs to work on the stuff you mention. Be sure to email him, he's very receptive to feedback!

I'd love a combo of Smart Note and NoteTaker, Smart Note gives the notebook aspect you are looking for.... But not as nice in the other areas as NoteTaker.

good readers PDF annotation was a disappointment to me, hopefully it will expand. Am i missing the ability to zoom in while doing the freehand stuff? Because it is impossible to fill a form in with it.

I haven't checked recently to see what else is new, but Smart Note and NoteTaker are the two apps that stayed on the ipads around here.

I use goodreader (it can now annotate) and iAnnotate for PDF annotations. Both work pretty well. Also, Noterize is very good. Note taker HD I hated for importing PDFS for the reasons you mentioned.

Hope this helps.

If Smart Note had the zoom in functionality like NT HD, they'd have my money and my vote immediately. It looks awesome!!
