Yep,

Moto's joint venture with Philips and STG has begun to flower. These new chips will probably end up in embedded chip devices, though. So it doesn't really help Apple out.

Also, Moto has put together a system for wireless ISPs. The range is somewhere between 2 and 20 miles. It's called Canopy and it looks to be a promising way to get broadband without involving those pesky Cable and Phone companies.

And so will Intel and AMD. The big news is 75 and later 45 nanometer manufacturing, both of which aren't too far off.

Although, the jump to 90 nanometers will be nice. For example, Intel is expected to hit 4GHz by July with the P4, maybe IBM will be able to get to 2.5GHz or so with their G3s on 90 nanometers. AMD will be pushing 3GHz before long.

They'll use it for something else, of course. I'm sure it's more profitable to fill all of Cisco's routers with CPUs than Apple's computers.

I would think that going from 180 to 90 nanometres wouldn't get much more speed with the G4. They'd find some way in fabbing it to get low yields of high speed chips. Maybe they could get 1.4 GHz, maybe not.

I'd rather be a sixer than an eighter but it doesn't look good right now. It really reminds me of the time when the 68040 was battling the 80486.
